Coolidge Presents THEREMIN with Tod Machover

As part of its popular Science on Screen series, the Coolidge Corner Theatre presents THEREMIN: AN ELECTRONIC ODYSSEY, the 1994 documentary about the unusual electronic instrument and the strange life of its inventor and namesake Leon Theremin, on Monday, Jan. 19 at 7:00 p.m. Before the film, MIT Professor of Music and Media Tod Machover will discuss his pioneering work as a composer and inventor of new technologies for music. Machover will also be on hand for Q&A after the movie.

Documentary Filmmaking Workshop

Come learn the basics of documentary filmmaking: interview techniques, shooting b-roll, titling, voiceover, establishing shots, graphics, etc.  Independent documentary filmmaker Naomi Greenfield will discuss strategies and techniques that will help you start to make your own film.  She will use her film festival hit "TWISTED: A Balloonamentary" (www.twistedballoondoc.com) as a teaching example for how to make an independent documentary from soup to nuts.  Students will be asked to shoot and edit their own short (2-4 minutes) mini-documentary during out-of-class time.

The annual holiday party for the Rhode Island Film Collaborative will host filmmakers, producers, actors and fans of independent film from throughout the region this year on Saturday, December 6th at Kay Studios.

The theme of the event is a “Black and White” party. That means all participants are encouraged to wear either black or white clothing – or a mixture. The decorations will be Black and White too – so will the movies and the food.

Sandy Meisner taught actors to live truthfully in connection with each other, to be authentic, in the moment, emotionally open. His technique, taught widely in LA and NY, is a necessity for film work, teaching actors to be fully alive and real for the camera. Lyralen Kaye, who has been teaching since 1986, trained with Fred Kareman, one of Meisner’s original students, at Carnegie Hall while receiving her MFA in Theatre from Sarah Lawrence College.
