As part of its popular Science on Screen series, the Coolidge Corner Theatre presents THEREMIN: AN ELECTRONIC ODYSSEY, the 1994 documentary about the unusual electronic instrument and the strange life of its inventor and namesake Leon Theremin, on Monday, Jan. 19 at 7:00 p.m. Before the film, MIT Professor of Music and Media Tod Machover will discuss his pioneering work as a composer and inventor of new technologies for music. Machover will also be on hand for Q&A after the movie.

As part of the Coolidge Corner Theatre’s 75th Anniversary celebrations, Tom and Ray Magliozzi, better known as Click and Clack, the Tappet Brothers, from NPR's popular radio show, Car Talk appear live on the Coolidge stage on Monday, January 5 at 7:00 p.m. to present their favorite film, A THOUSAND CLOWNS.

Come learn the basics of documentary filmmaking: interview techniques, shooting b-roll, titling, voiceover, establishing shots, graphics, etc.  Independent documentary filmmaker Naomi Greenfield will discuss strategies and techniques that will help you start to make your own film.  She will use her film festival hit "TWISTED: A Balloonamentary" (www.twistedballoondoc.com) as a teaching example for how to make an independent documentary from soup to nuts.  Students will be asked to shoot and edit their own short (2-4 minutes) mini-documentary during out-of-class time.

J Fahey Show, a popular Boston Community Show, seeks unique talent to interview live for television programs for 2009. Seeking talented and skillful guests (actors, directors, producers, production people, etc.) that contribute to the growth of the film and television industry in Boston and the New England Areas.

You can’t escape if you try––it’s on your computer, the subway, U.S. mailboxes, IRS tax forms, and spells out countless corporate logos from Target to Crate & Barrel to Fendi. No doubt, Helvetica is the king of fonts. But why? To find the answer, first-time Director Gary Hustwit meets with historians and designers whose passion for typefaces run high, and discovers the secrets behind the fonts we use and read every day.

Sandy Meisner taught actors to live truthfully in connection with each other, to be authentic, in the moment, emotionally open. His technique, taught widely in LA and NY, is a necessity for film work, teaching actors to be fully alive and real for the camera. Lyralen Kaye, who has been teaching since 1986, trained with Fred Kareman, one of Meisner’s original students, at Carnegie Hall while receiving her MFA in Theatre from Sarah Lawrence College.
