Come learn the basics of documentary filmmaking: interview techniques, shooting b-roll, titling, voiceover, establishing shots, graphics, etc.  Independent documentary filmmaker Naomi Greenfield will discuss strategies and techniques that will help you start to make your own film.  She will use her film festival hit "TWISTED: A Balloonamentary" (www.twistedballoondoc.com) as a teaching example for how to make an independent documentary from soup to nuts.  Students will be asked to shoot and edit their own short (2-4 minutes) mini-documentary during out-of-class time.

Learn to create hand-drawn animations using a variety of drawing and under-the-camera techniques. Taught by award-winning local animator, Karen Aqua, the six- session workshop will be hands-on and intensive, with the group creating an animation together. For two sessions, renowned composer/musician Ken Field will help the class create a soundtrack for the film. The last session is a screening of the finished project for students and friends. No previous experience or equipment are required.

Digital stories are short, creative video projects created on the computer. In this five session class, participants will learn to weave together images, first person narration and music to tell personal stories using iMovie software. Share memories, community stories or organizational profiles. Students are encouraged to begin organizing photos for the project in advance of the first class. A six-week, hands-on workshop in hand-drawn animation. The last session will be a screening for students and friends. Students will explore movement and transformation using a variety of drawing and under-the-camera techniques, including flipbooks, cut-outs, and object animation. Sound effects and music will be recorded to accompany the visuals.

Creative expression will be emphasized in this six-session production course designed for anyone seeking to explore new frontiers in the medium of video. Projects made in class will combine unusual traditional techniques with current digital video and sound processes to allow students to make their own distinctive video art. Green screen, optical effects, video feedback, and editing will be covered, along with personal, non-technical approaches to video production. Students will use the SCATV studio and video equipment to create projects in class.
