As part of the Coolidge Corner Theatre’s 75th Anniversary celebrations, Tom and Ray Magliozzi, better known as Click and Clack, the Tappet Brothers, from NPR's popular radio show, Car Talk appear live on the Coolidge stage on Monday, January 5 at 7:00 p.m. to present their favorite film, A THOUSAND CLOWNS.

As part of its popular Science on Screen series, the Coolidge Corner Theatre presents THEREMIN: AN ELECTRONIC ODYSSEY, the 1994 documentary about the unusual electronic instrument and the strange life of its inventor and namesake Leon Theremin, on Monday, Jan. 19 at 7:00 p.m. Before the film, MIT Professor of Music and Media Tod Machover will discuss his pioneering work as a composer and inventor of new technologies for music. Machover will also be on hand for Q&A after the movie.

On Monday, April 7 at 7:00 p.m., the Coolidge Corner Theatre begins a month-long showcase of the phenomenal work by this year's Coolidge Award recipients, world-renowned animators the Quay Brothers. The Quays will be at the Coolidge May 6 and May 7 for Award events.

The April 7 program features four of the Quay Brothers' brilliantly conceived, visually striking short films:

STILLE NACHT 1: DRAMOLET - This short was commissioned by MTV as a between-programs “Art Break.” A frost of iron filings forms on a bleak landscape while a lonely figure looks on (1988, 2 minutes)

Science on Screen at the Coolidge Corner Theatre pairs Stanley Kramer’s groundbreaking 1967 film with a talk on the science of prejudice by Harvard social psychologist Mahzarin Banaji, a pioneer in the study of unconscious bias.

Science on Screen at the Coolidge Corner Theatre celebrates the underappreciated holiday of Groundhog Day with a screening of -- appropriately enough – GROUNDHOG DAY, combined with an introduction by Peter Galison, widely considered one of the world's leading science historians.

Science on Screen at the Coolidge Corner Theatre takes a dark twist with a presentation of Night of the Living Dead, George A. Romero's 1968 genre-defining zombie horror film. Joining us before the screening to explore the theoretical neuroscience of zombies and the psychological effects they have on others is Steven Schlozman, MD, an assistant professor of psychiatry at Harvard Medical School, lecturer in education at the Harvard Graduate School of Education, and self-described zombie film fanatic.

Part of the Coolidge Award celebrations honoring extraordinary filmmakers the Quay Brothers, this event is a rare opportunity to interact with these outstanding artists in person. The program includes a screening of the dance film Eurydice, She So Beloved, the Quay Brothers’ television commercials, the iconic Street of Crocodiles, and In Absentia, a collaboration with the avant-garde composer Karlheinz Stockhausen. Q&A with the Quays follows the program.

On Thursday, May 7 at 7:00 p.m. Larry Sider, founder and director of the internationally respected School of Sound in London and collaborator with the Quay Brothers for over 20 years, leads a dynamic and entertaining tutorial in conversation with the Quays, focusing on the creation of the sound element in their films. At this interactive event, punctuated by cinematic excerpts, audience members will be fully immersed in the mesmerizing aural/visual world created by these artists.

The Coolidge Corner Theatre wraps up the 2008-2009 season of its popular Science on Screen series with a special program, An Evening with Ray Kurzweil on Monday, May 11 at 7:00 p.m. The celebrated futurist, inventor and entrepreneur will give a multimedia presentation based on his best-selling book The Singularity is Near and show an exclusive trailer of the upcoming film of the same name. Audience members will also get a sneak peek at Transcendent Man, director Barry Ptolemy’s documentary charting Kurzweil’s journey to bring the ideas from The Singularity to a worldwide audience.

The Coolidge kicks off a new partnership with NT Live with screenings of the National Theatre of Great Britain's production of Phèdre on Thursday, July 23 at at 7:00 pm and Sunday, July 26 at 11:00 am.
