Event Location: Cost: $9.75 general admission; $7.75 students, seniors, and Museum of Science members; free for Coolidge members Science on Screen at the Coolidge Corner Theatre celebrates the underappreciated holiday of Groundhog Day with a screening of -- appropriately enough – GROUNDHOG DAY, combined with an introduction by Peter Galison, widely considered one of the world's leading science historians. Harold Ramis’ off-beat modern comedy classic stars Bill Murray as Phil Connors, a self-centered television weatherman assigned to cover the groundhog's annual appearance in Punxsutawney, PA. It's his forth year waiting on word from the rodent to determine the length of the remaining winter, and Phil couldn't be more open about his disdain for the town, his job and his co-workers. When he awakens on what should be the following day, he inexplicably finds himself stuck in a time loop, dooming him to repeat his most hated day of the year, over and over again, until he finally get things right. The premise of this unusual comedy raises many questions regarding time. What is time, exactly? How does time flow? Are time loops really possible? Joining us for a pre-screening discussion of these and other issues related to the film is Peter Galison. An author, film producer and MacArthur Award winner, Galison is the Joseph Pellegrino University Professor of physics and the history of science at Harvard University.
