BIOGRAPHY

John Stimpson has been producing and directing film and television projects in the Boston area for 20 years. The Legend of Lucy Keyes, his recent dramatic feature starring Julie Delpy and Justin Theroux, is currently in distribution around the world. The thriller based on a local legend and a real-life haunting was shot in Princeton, Massachusetts. His most recent short film The Winter People garnered many film festivals laurels including Woods Hole and Savannah where it was named Best Short. Beacon Hill, another feature length project (aka, The Gentleman from Boston) that John co-wrote and directed premiered at the 2001 Nantucket film festival.

A member of the Motion Picture Editor’s Guild, John has recently worked as assembly editor for two films shot in the Boston area. Shuttle, a horror film that premiered at South by Southwest last year and The Hatteras, a murder mystery shot in Gloucester both came to Massachusetts as a direct result of the recent tax credit legislation.

As a writer/director, John has two features currently in development, Dot Com Love, a romantic comedy about internet dating and Bumper Crop, a new twist on saving the family farm. Contrition, a short film about the aftermath of a wife-swapping episode, is in preproduction and is slated to shoot this Spring.

Stimpson’s interest in film and television began at Harvard where he was President of the Hasty Pudding Theatricals. He spent five years as a professional actor in Los Angeles before returning to the East Coast and moving to the other side of the lens. His documentary film Backstage at the Hasty Pudding earned him a Bronze Apple at the National Educational Film Festival.
