I've been meeting some agencies and they want me to pay to be on their website? My feeling is legit agencies do not ask for fees except percentage of work? Anybody have advise or experience with these? |

Do NOT pay!
Agencies get their money directly from clients who pay THEM to find people. Websites that request a membership fee are not ones you want to associate with. You are better off getting the official SAG talent agency list and finding out more about those establishments. Most agencies accept simply a headshot/resume mailed to them. They then store you in a database and will contact you if a client is searching for your particular type.
In short, stay away from scams or agencies that request upfront money.
Agency Fees
We've covered some of those questions in an article appearing in this month's issue of NewEnglandFilm:

I don’t act, but I do write. If you are asking to be on someone’s website you need to be aware of the cost. Agency’s usually will consider you, but won’t invest much. I suggest you put together your own portfolio and try to promote yourself. If you have a camera and a little money it can be done. It will be your query letters that will matter most. Sell yourself, but don’t sell yourself short.
