2010 Coolidge Award Reception & Ceremony Honoring Jonathan Demme

The Coolidge Corner Theatre honors internationally acclaimed director Jonathan Demme with the 2010 Coolidge Award. Join Demme and friends for cocktails and hors d'oeuvres at the Coolidge, followed by the Award ceremony. Screenwriter Jenny Lumet (RACHEL GETTING MARRIED) will host this celebratory evening featuring surprise guests, film clips, and tributes to Demme. Since making his directorial debut with CAGED HEAT in 1974, Jonathan Demme has gone on to direct an eclectic range of feature films including CRAZY MAMA, MELVIN AND HOWARD, SOMETHING WILD, MARRIED TO THE MOB, PHILADELPHIA, THE SILENCE OF THE LAMBS (for which he won the Academy Award for Best Director in 1991), and RACHEL GETTING MARRIED. In addition to features, he has established himself as a master in the documentary and performance film genres. His outstanding body of work includes STOP MAKING SENSE, SWIMMING TO CAMBODIA, HAITI: DREAMS OF DEMOCRACY, THE AGRONOMIST, NEIL YOUNG: HEART OF GOLD, JIMMY CARTER MAN FROM PLAINS, and NEIL YOUNG TRUNK SHOW.

In conjunction with the Coolidge Award, the Coolidge will present a variety of programs on March 1-2 honoring Jonathan Demme's achievements. Selected screenings from Demme's filmography will take place throughout February and March. For more information, visit www.coolidge.org/awardnews.
