audios22About Jim RiederBIOGRAPHY Jim has been in the field of audio production and music since the 70’s as an engineer, producer, director and composer. But his love for music and audio came much earlier. Jim started as a self-taught drummer in the mid 60’s and joined a number of Jazz and Rock “Garage bands” in and around the Cleveland, Ohio area. The last of which became the James Gang. Jim’s musical career would have to go on hold for a while in 1967. He served his country for three years in the Army with assignments in Europe and Viet Nam. After returning from the armed services, he decided to go to Arizona State University and re-connect with his love of music and recording. He started his quest in audio engineering at the Walter Cronkite School of Broadcasting at Arizona State University in 1972. Upon completing studies at ASU, He began working at a 24-track recording studio in Phoenix, as second engineer. Working with local and regional agencies in producing radio and TV spots, industrial video and album projects, working with national recording artists such as; Stevie Nicks of Fleetwood Mac, The Neville Brothers, John McCuen (Nitty Gritty Dirt Band) and Lyle Lovett. Jim became known for his unique recording style and pushing the technology to its limits to achieve the best possible recording. He moved to Los Angeles to continue in the recording industry and worked as engineer for a number of studios in LA and San Diego. Soon, more artists were coming to Phoenix to record and the commercial and industrial video business was beginning to thrive as well. Jim became associated with Go-Video Productions under a contract to design and build a multi-track audio post studio and remain as their production manager in the early 80’s. While at Go-Video Productions, Jim was instrumental in developing a franchise program for mobile video production and the DualDeck VCR while managing a production staff of 10 in producing industrial, commercial video and 35mm film projects. He also had the opportunity to establish a music publishing company and an independent record label, Yansa Music which recorded, produced and distributed a number of adult contemporary albums in the US and Europe. Jim continued his original love of music and became a self-taught synthesist, which started him on the road of original music production for video and film projects in Phoenix and LA. Opportunity came knocking once again in the form of a contract position with the Phoenix Suns as the Audio Manager and Technical Director at the America West Arena and later at Bank One Ballpark for the Arizona Diamondbacks. Jim opened and maintained an in-house multi-track studio to produce audio for the NBA, MLB, NHL, NBC, ESPN in sound effects, compose music and coordinate game operations for the Suns, Diamondbacks, Phoenix Coyotes, Phoenix Mercury and the Arizona Rattlers. All the while, Jim maintained his own company, The Production Source, which serviced Phoenix and LA Ad agencies along with local production companies in digital audio products in original music, sound effects and voice. Today, after a long productive history with numerous Telly awards, Rocky Mountain Emmy’s and four Arizona Addy’s, teaching audio production at Phoenix College and a continued passion for music composition, Jim finds himself with his newest venture, Suite Audio Sound Design, a digital audio and media communications company. He continues to strive toward complete excellence in audio production for his clients and increasing his own knowledge that has grown extensively over his career.
